Fan Jian (officer)
Fan Jian (范堅, fl. early 3rd century CE) was an officer serving under the warlord Sun Quan during the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period of Chinese history. He is primarily known for his role in the Battle of Jiangling against Cao Cao's forces.
While historical accounts of Fan Jian are relatively scarce, he is typically mentioned in relation to the defense of Jiangling, a strategically important city, against Cao Cao's invading army. He was entrusted with key responsibilities in the defense, acting as a subordinate commander under the overall leadership of Zhou Yu and Cheng Pu.
Specifically, Fan Jian is recorded to have participated in defensive actions, contributing to the overall strategy of exhausting and weakening Cao Cao's troops. His specific actions or contributions are not detailed in surviving historical texts, but his inclusion in the accounts of the battle suggests that he played a tangible part in the Sun Quan's victory.
After the Battle of Jiangling, further information about Fan Jian is largely absent from historical records. His subsequent career path and ultimate fate remain unknown.
