Sotelma
Sotelma was the national telecommunications company of Mali. It provided fixed-line telephone, mobile phone, and internet services to the Malian population. In 2009, Sotelma was privatized, with Maroc Telecom acquiring a majority stake. The company was subsequently rebranded as Malitel. Prior to privatization, Sotelma held a monopoly in the Malian telecommunications market. It faced challenges in expanding its network infrastructure and improving service quality. Post-privatization and rebranding to Malitel, significant investments were made in modernizing the network and expanding mobile coverage. Sotelma's legacy continues to influence the telecommunications landscape in Mali, as its foundational infrastructure and services were integral to the country's early telecommunications development.
