Atišta

Atišta (also spelled Ativisha or Atis) is a perennial herb belonging to the buttercup family (Ranunculaceae). Its scientific name is Aconitum heterophyllum. It is native to the Himalayan regions of India, Pakistan, and Nepal, typically found at high altitudes.

Description:

The plant possesses tuberous roots which are the medicinally important part. The leaves are variable in shape (heterophyllum means "different leaves"), generally oblong or ovate. Flowers are typically blue or white.

Traditional Uses:

Atišta has a long history of use in traditional Ayurvedic and Unani medicine. The root is primarily used for its antipyretic (fever-reducing), analgesic (pain-relieving), anti-inflammatory, and digestive properties. It is used to treat conditions like fever, diarrhea, cough, and general weakness. It is considered a potent bitter tonic.

The primary active constituents of Atišta are alkaloids, particularly atisine, hetisine, and heterophyllisine. These alkaloids are responsible for the herb's therapeutic effects.
