Navizon

Navizon was a technology company specializing in indoor positioning systems (IPS) using cellular signals and Wi-Fi. The company offered services that allowed for the location of mobile devices within buildings and other GPS-denied environments. This technology aimed to address the limitations of GPS, which typically doesn't function reliably indoors due to signal obstruction.

Navizon's positioning technology relied on collecting and analyzing cellular tower and Wi-Fi access point signals. The system utilized a database of radio frequency (RF) fingerprints, created by mapping the signal characteristics of various locations. By comparing the signals detected by a mobile device with the data in its database, Navizon could estimate the device's location.

The company targeted a variety of applications, including location-based advertising, asset tracking, emergency response, and indoor navigation. Their technology was used in retail, healthcare, and logistics industries.

Navizon was acquired by Google in 2011. The technology developed by Navizon likely contributed to the improvement of Google's own location services, particularly in enhancing indoor positioning capabilities within Google Maps and other related applications. The Navizon brand is no longer actively marketed.
