Pembina (Alberta federal electoral district)

Pembina was a federal electoral district in Alberta, Canada, that existed from 1908 to 1952. It was located in a central area of the province.

Creation and Abolition:

The electoral district was created in 1907 from parts of the previous electoral districts of Alberta and Strathcona. It existed for thirteen federal elections, from the 1908 federal election to the 1949 federal election. Pembina was abolished in 1952 when its territory was redistributed into the Athabasca, Edmonton—Strathcona, and Jasper—Edson ridings.

Representation:

Pembina elected one Member of Parliament (MP) to the House of Commons of Canada under the first-past-the-post electoral system.

Historical Significance:

While Pembina existed for a relatively short period compared to some other federal ridings, it played a role in representing the interests of rural Albertans during a period of significant agricultural development and population growth in the province. Its history reflects the evolving political landscape of Alberta and Canada in the early to mid-20th century.
