Anarete
Anarete (Ancient Greek: Ἀναρέτη) is a female name originating in Ancient Greece. It is associated with two notable figures in Greek tradition:
In [[Greek mythology]], Anarete was a daughter of [[Alpheus]], a river god. By [[Poseidon]], she was the mother of [[Abas (son of Poseidon)]], who founded the city of Abae in [[Phocis]].
In [[Ancient history]], Anarete was the daughter of [[Tisander]] and the mother of [[Cimon]], the prominent Athenian statesman and general. Her husband was [[Miltiades (the Younger)]], the Athenian general known for leading the victory at the Battle of Marathon. Anarete was reputedly a woman from [[Thrace]].
