Mrs Dalloway (film)

Mrs Dalloway is a 1997 British drama film directed by Marleen Gorris, starring Vanessa Redgrave, Natascha McElhone, and Rupert Graves. The film is an adaptation of Virginia Woolf's 1925 novel of the same name. It tells the story of Clarissa Dalloway, a high-society woman in post-World War I London, as she prepares for a party and reflects on her past, particularly her relationships with Peter Walsh and Sally Seton.

The film closely follows the novel's structure, interweaving Clarissa's present-day preparations with flashbacks to her youth. It explores themes of memory, time, societal expectations, mental illness (through the character of Septimus Smith), and the complexities of human relationships.

The screenplay was written by Eileen Atkins.
