Copainalá
Copainalá is a town and municipality located in the Chiapas Highlands of Mexico. It is part of the Mezcalapa Region.
The name "Copainalá" comes from the Nahuatl language, combining "Copalli" (incense) and "Atlán" (place of), meaning "Place of Incense."
The town is known for its traditional indigenous culture, particularly that of the Zoque people, who make up a significant portion of the population. Their traditions are reflected in local festivals, crafts, and cuisine. Agriculture is a primary economic activity, with coffee, corn, and beans being among the main crops.
Copainalá is situated in a mountainous area characterized by diverse flora and fauna. While not a major tourist destination, it offers opportunities for exploring the natural environment and experiencing authentic rural Mexican life. The municipality also encompasses smaller communities and ejidos surrounding the central town. Historical sites relating to the Zoque people are also found in the area.
