John Jenkinson (bishop)

John Jenkinson (1925 – 2014) was a British Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of Whitby from 1987 to 1993.

Born on 13 November 1925, Jenkinson was educated at Oundle School and St John's College, Cambridge, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree. He prepared for ordination at Westcott House, Cambridge.

Jenkinson was ordained a deacon in 1951 and a priest in 1952. He served as a curate at St. Michael's, Headingley, Leeds, from 1951 to 1954. He was then appointed chaplain of St John's College, Cambridge, a position he held from 1954 to 1961. Following this, he became Vicar of Trumpington from 1961 to 1971. From 1971 to 1987, he served as Archdeacon of Richmond.

In 1987, Jenkinson was consecrated as Bishop of Whitby, a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of York. He held this position until his retirement in 1993.

Jenkinson was married to Rosemary, and they had three children. He died in 2014.
