Geysdorp
Geysdorp is a fictional settlement appearing in the writings of J.R.R. Tolkien, specifically within drafts and early versions of The Lord of the Rings. It represents a predecessor concept to the village of Bree. As such, Geysdorp shares certain characteristics with Bree, most notably being a meeting place for different races, including hobbits and Men. Its significance lies primarily in understanding the evolution of Tolkien's world-building and his iterative process in developing the setting of Middle-earth. Geysdorp was eventually abandoned in favour of Bree, which became the established settlement described in the final published work. Information regarding Geysdorp is mainly gleaned from Christopher Tolkien's commentary in The History of Middle-earth series, specifically volumes related to the development of The Lord of the Rings.
