Sand Key (barrier island)

Sand Key is a barrier island located along the Gulf Coast of Pinellas County, Florida, United States. It is situated between Clearwater Beach to the north and Treasure Island to the south.

Formed by the natural processes of sediment deposition and wave action, Sand Key is a dynamic coastal environment constantly shaped by wind and water. Its primary composition is quartz sand, typical of the region's beaches. The island is long and narrow, with the Gulf of Mexico on its western side and the intercoastal waterway, often called Boca Ciega Bay, on its eastern side.
