Naked Came the Stranger (film)
Naked Came the Stranger is a 1975 American satirical comedy film directed by Radley Metzger. It is an adaptation of the 1969 novel of the same name, a hoax novel collaboratively written by 25 journalists for Newsday. The film, much like the novel, aimed to satirize the then-current obsession with sex and sensationalism in popular culture.
The plot revolves around the sex life of a wealthy couple, Gillian and Neil Blake, and explores their extramarital affairs and sexual encounters. The film depicts a series of explicit and often absurd situations, reflecting the novel's intentionally outrageous and over-the-top content.
The film received overwhelmingly negative reviews and is generally considered a softcore pornography film, despite its purported satirical intentions. Its failure is often attributed to its inability to translate the novel's satirical edge effectively onto the screen, resulting in a product perceived as simply exploitative. The film has faded into obscurity.
