Rob Newman (footballer)

Rob Newman (born 16 February 1963) is an English former professional footballer who played as a defender.

Newman began his career with Bristol City, making his debut in 1981. He spent over a decade at Ashton Gate, becoming a regular in the first team and captaining the side. He was known for his commitment, tackling ability and versatility.

In 1991, Newman moved to Norwich City for a fee of £450,000. He was a key member of the Norwich team that finished third in the inaugural Premier League season in 1992-93, qualifying for the UEFA Cup. He played regularly for the Canaries during his time at Carrow Road, and was highly regarded by the Norwich supporters.

Following his spell at Norwich, Newman joined Motherwell in 1994. He spent two seasons in Scotland before returning to England and joining AFC Bournemouth in 1996. He played for Bournemouth for two seasons before retiring from professional football in 1998.

After retiring, Newman has been involved in coaching and scouting. He has also worked as a summariser on local radio.
