Child's Play (British game show)

Child's Play was a British television game show that aired on ITV from 1984 to 1989. It was hosted by Michael Aspel, and later by Chris Kelly. The core concept of the show involved teams of two celebrities attempting to guess words described by a panel of children aged between 8 and 12.

The children were instructed to define a particular word without actually saying the word itself. They were encouraged to use creative and often humorous explanations. The celebrities then had a limited amount of time to guess the word based on the children's descriptions.

The show was known for its light-hearted and comedic atmosphere, stemming primarily from the often unintentionally funny and insightful definitions provided by the children. A correct guess earned the celebrity team points. The team with the most points at the end of the show won a prize for a nominated charity.

A key feature of the show was the inclusion of regional accents and colloquialisms in the children's descriptions, which added to the program's charm and entertainment value. The show's popularity was driven by its appeal to a family audience, offering a blend of light entertainment and gentle competition. It was a staple of ITV's afternoon programming schedule for much of its run.

The show was produced by Anglia Television.
