Dave Thompson (Scottish politician)
Dave Thompson (born 1949) is a Scottish National Party (SNP) politician. He served as a Member of the Scottish Parliament (MSP) for the Highlands and Islands region from 2007 to 2016.
Thompson was born in Fife and educated at Kirkcaldy High School and the University of Stirling. Before entering politics, he worked as a teacher and lecturer in further education.
He was elected to the Scottish Parliament in 2007 and re-elected in 2011. During his time in parliament, he served on several committees, including the Education and Culture Committee and the Rural Affairs, Climate Change and Environment Committee. He was a vocal advocate for issues affecting the Highlands and Islands, including rural broadband access and ferry services.
Thompson did not seek re-election in the 2016 Scottish Parliament election.
