John Robertson (Virginia politician)

John Robertson (Virginia politician) was a 19th-century American lawyer and politician from Virginia. He served as a United States Senator from 1823 to 1829.

Robertson was born in Amelia County, Virginia, on December 30, 1787. He graduated from the College of William & Mary and subsequently studied law. He was admitted to the bar and began practicing law in Richmond.

Robertson's political career began in the Virginia House of Delegates, where he served several terms. He was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1823 to fill the vacancy caused by the resignation of James Pleasants. During his time in the Senate, Robertson was known for his advocacy of states' rights and his opposition to federal interference in state affairs. He also served on several important committees.

Robertson was defeated for reelection in 1829. After leaving the Senate, he returned to his law practice in Richmond. He was a delegate to the Virginia Constitutional Convention of 1829–1830.

John Robertson died in Richmond, Virginia, on July 5, 1873.
