Haokip (clan)

The Haokip are a major clan (also referred to as a tribe or a sub-tribe in some contexts) within the Kuki-Chin-Mizo ethnic group, primarily found in Northeast India (Manipur, Mizoram, Assam, Nagaland), Myanmar (Chin State), and Bangladesh (Chittagong Hill Tracts). They are known for their distinct cultural traditions, language (a dialect of the Kuki language continuum), and social organization.

Historically, the Haokip people were known for their village-based social structure, with a chief playing a significant role in governance and decision-making. Traditional occupations included agriculture (primarily jhum cultivation), hunting, and weaving.
