Bruce Reed (mathematician)

Bruce Reed is a Canadian mathematician specializing in graph theory and algorithms. He is known for his contributions to structural graph theory, algorithmic graph theory, and probabilistic methods in graph theory.

Reed obtained his Ph.D. from McGill University in 1991 under the supervision of Bruce Shepherd. He has held positions at the University of Paris VI, Carnegie Mellon University, and is currently a Canada Research Chair at McGill University.

His research interests include the chromatic number of graphs, the structure of graphs with forbidden subgraphs, and approximation algorithms for NP-hard problems on graphs. He has published extensively in leading journals and conferences in his field.

Reed is the recipient of several awards and honors, including the CRM-Fields-PIMS Prize in 2013. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada. He has also served on the editorial boards of several prominent journals in discrete mathematics and computer science. He is known for his collaborative work with other researchers and his contributions to the advancement of graph theory.
