LGV Est

The LGV Est (Ligne à Grande Vitesse Est), also known as the LGV Est Européenne (East European High-Speed Line), is a high-speed railway line in France, connecting Vaires-sur-Marne (near Paris) to Vendenheim (near Strasbourg). It is part of the larger European high-speed rail network and significantly reduces travel times between Paris and eastern France, as well as connecting to other major European cities.

The line's construction was divided into two phases. Phase 1, from Vaires-sur-Marne to Baudrecourt, opened in June 2007. Phase 2, extending the line to Vendenheim near Strasbourg, opened in July 2016. The line is primarily used by SNCF's TGV (Train à Grande Vitesse) services.

The LGV Est has contributed to regional development, facilitated business travel, and enhanced tourism. The line's construction also involved significant engineering challenges, including viaducts, tunnels, and noise reduction measures. The economic impact of the LGV Est has been widely studied, showing positive effects on the regions it serves.
