Lake Street station (Arlington, Massachusetts)
Lake Street station was a former railway station located in Arlington, Massachusetts. It served passengers on the Lexington Branch of the Boston and Maine Railroad. The station was situated near the intersection of Lake Street and Massachusetts Avenue.
The station provided passenger service to and from Boston, as well as other towns along the Lexington Branch. Like other stations on the line, Lake Street station played a role in facilitating suburban development and commuting patterns in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Passenger service on the Lexington Branch, including service to Lake Street station, was discontinued in 1961. Following the discontinuation of rail service, the station building was eventually demolished. Today, the former right-of-way of the Lexington Branch is part of the Minuteman Bikeway, a popular recreational trail. There is no physical remnant of the station remaining at the Lake Street location.
The location of the former Lake Street station is now primarily residential and commercial.
