Thank Your Lucky Stars (TV series)
Thank Your Lucky Stars was a British television pop music show broadcast by the Associated TeleVision (ATV) network from 1961 to 1966. It was one of the most popular and influential music shows of its time, predating and, in some ways, surpassing the impact of Top of the Pops in its early years.
The show typically featured performances by popular artists of the day, both British and international. Many major stars of the 1960s, including The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Dusty Springfield, and The Supremes, appeared on Thank Your Lucky Stars. The program was known for its fast-paced format, showcasing a succession of musical acts with minimal talking.
Thank Your Lucky Stars was initially presented by Pete Murray and later by other presenters, including Janice Nicholls, who became particularly well-known for her catchphrase, "Oi'll give it foive." The show was produced by Philip Jones.
The program's influence extended beyond just showcasing popular music; it also helped to shape the visual style of pop music television, using innovative camera techniques and editing styles for the time. The show's cancellation in 1966 reflected changing tastes and the rise of other music programs.
