John Young (Bishop of Argyll)
John Young (died 1513) was a Scottish prelate of the late 15th and early 16th centuries. He served as Bishop of Argyll from 1499 until his death.
Very little is definitively known about John Young's early life or career before his appointment to the bishopric. He appears in records sporadically, often related to legal matters.
He was provided to the see of Argyll on 16 January 1499, succeeding Colin Campbell. He was consecrated at some point thereafter. His episcopate witnessed continued tensions between the Scottish crown and the western clans. Documentary evidence suggests he was involved in various land disputes and attempts to assert episcopal authority within his diocese.
He died in 1513. The exact date is unknown, but he was certainly deceased before the appointment of his successor, Robert Montgomery, in 1514. His tenure as Bishop of Argyll is notable primarily for its relative obscurity, reflecting the challenges faced by the church in asserting control over the Highlands and Islands during this period. He left little lasting impact on the diocese.
