Fernwald

Fernwald is a municipality in the district of Gießen, in Hesse, Germany. It is situated approximately 6 km southeast of Gießen.

The municipality was formed in 1971 through the merger of the previously independent villages of Annerod, Steinbach, and Albach. The name "Fernwald" was chosen to reflect the area's location near the large forest area east of Gießen.

Annerod is the administrative center of Fernwald. The municipality is primarily residential, with some local businesses and agriculture. It benefits from its proximity to the larger city of Gießen and the A5 autobahn, providing good transport links.

The local government of Fernwald is headed by a mayor and a municipal council. The council is responsible for local decision-making and managing the municipality's affairs.
