Avalokitesvara (film)

Avalokitesvara is a 2018 Chinese biographical drama film directed by Lian Zi and starring Li Chun, Nie Yuan, and Yu Rongguang. The film depicts the life story of Miao Shan, believed in Buddhist tradition to be the earthly incarnation of Avalokitesvara Bodhisattva, the bodhisattva of compassion. The film focuses on Miao Shan's devotion to Buddhism, her resistance to her father's wishes for her to marry and become a powerful political figure, and her eventual attainment of enlightenment through self-sacrifice. It explores themes of compassion, filial piety, and the pursuit of spiritual awakening. The film is also known under the alternative title Miao Shan.
