Dance's sign
Dance's sign is a clinical sign observed in some patients with ileocolic intussusception. It refers to the palpation of an emptiness in the right lower quadrant of the abdomen, due to the migration of the cecum out of its normal location as it telescopes into the ascending colon during the intussusception process. The absence of the bowel in the right lower quadrant can be felt upon abdominal examination. This finding, coupled with other symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting (often bilious), and rectal bleeding (resulting in "currant jelly stool"), can strongly suggest the diagnosis of intussusception, especially in children. The sign is not always present, and its absence does not rule out intussusception.
