Bitburg (electoral district)

Bitburg is an electoral district (German: Wahlkreis) used for elections to the German Bundestag, the federal parliament of Germany. It is located in the state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The district is designated as Wahlkreis 202. Its boundaries are defined geographically and encompass the administrative districts (Kreise) of Eifelkreis Bitburg-Prüm and Vulkaneifel, as well as parts of the district of Bernkastel-Wittlich (specifically, the Verbandsgemeinden of Kröv-Bausendorf and Thalfang am Erbeskopf).

The electoral district has been contested in every Bundestag election since the formation of the Federal Republic of Germany. Historically, it has been a stronghold for the Christian Democratic Union (CDU). The winning candidate represents the district directly in the Bundestag. In addition to the directly elected member, parties also receive representation through proportional representation, based on the nationwide party vote. This can result in additional members of parliament from Rhineland-Palatinate representing the region in the Bundestag.
