David Young (Iowa politician)
David Young (born May 12, 1968) is an American politician and businessman from Iowa. He served as the U.S. Representative for Iowa's 3rd congressional district from 2015 to 2019. A Republican, he previously worked as chief of staff to U.S. Senators Jim Bunning of Kentucky and Chuck Grassley of Iowa.
Young was born in Van Meter, Iowa. He graduated from Johnston High School and Drake University. Before entering politics, he worked in the insurance and financial services industries.
Young ran for Congress in 2014, winning the Republican primary and defeating Staci Appel in the general election. During his time in Congress, he served on the House Appropriations Committee and focused on issues such as agriculture, transportation, and veterans affairs. He was known for his moderate stance and willingness to work across the aisle.
Young was defeated for re-election in 2018 by Cindy Axne. He ran again in 2020 but lost to Axne a second time. Since leaving Congress, Young has remained active in Iowa politics and business.
