David Cox (born 8 May 1989) is a Scottish former professional footballer who played as a forward.

Career

Cox began his career with Heart of Midlothian, progressing through their youth system. He made his senior debut while on loan to Peterhead in 2008. Further loan spells followed at Montrose and Brechin City. He joined Alloa Athletic on a permanent basis in 2010.

After Alloa, he played for Annan Athletic before signing for Dumbarton in 2012. During his time at Dumbarton, he contributed to their promotion to the Scottish Championship.

He subsequently played for Peterhead again, Forfar Athletic, Airdrieonians, Cowdenbeath, Albion Rovers, and finally Stenhousemuir.

Retirement and Mental Health Advocacy

Cox retired from professional football in April 2021, citing mental health issues stemming from alleged abuse and taunting received during a game against Albion Rovers. He has since become a vocal advocate for mental health awareness in football and beyond, speaking out against bullying and discrimination within the sport. He has shared his experiences to encourage others to seek help and promote a more supportive environment in football.
