College Hill (Tampa)

College Hill is a neighborhood located in the city of Tampa, Florida. It is situated northeast of downtown Tampa, generally bounded by East Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard to the north, North 22nd Street to the east, Interstate 4 to the south, and North Nebraska Avenue to the west.

Historically, College Hill was one of Tampa's oldest African American neighborhoods. It experienced significant growth in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, becoming a vibrant center of Black culture and commerce. The name "College Hill" is believed to derive from the location of an early educational institution for African Americans.

In the mid-20th century, College Hill, like many urban neighborhoods, faced challenges including urban renewal projects and highway construction that disrupted established communities and businesses. Interstate 4 bisected the neighborhood, impacting its cohesion.

Today, College Hill is undergoing revitalization efforts, with renewed focus on community development, affordable housing, and preserving its historical significance. It is a diverse neighborhood with a mix of residential, commercial, and industrial areas.
