Vä Church
The Vä Church (Swedish: Vä kyrka) is a medieval church located in Vä, Scania, Sweden. It is notable for its well-preserved Romanesque architecture and its historical significance as a former cathedral church.
Historically, Vä was an important center in Scania, predating nearby Kristianstad. The church served as the cathedral for the Diocese of Scania until the 11th century, when the episcopal seat was moved to Lund. Archaeological evidence suggests the presence of an earlier wooden church on the site.
The current stone church was likely constructed in the 12th century, with later additions and alterations. Key features include its massive Romanesque tower, nave, and chancel. The interior contains medieval frescoes, a Romanesque baptismal font, and other historical artifacts. The church underwent restoration work in the 20th century to preserve its architectural and artistic heritage. Today, it serves as a parish church within the Church of Sweden.
