Chief of Defence Force (Timor-Leste)

The Chief of Defence Force (Portuguese: Chefe do Estado-Maior-General das Forças Armadas, CEMGFA) of Timor-Leste is the highest-ranking military officer of the Timor Leste Defence Force (Forças de Defesa de Timor-Leste, F-FDTL). The Chief of Defence Force is responsible for the command, control, and administration of the F-FDTL, and reports directly to the Minister of Defence. They are the principal military advisor to the government.

The CEMGFA oversees all military operations and activities, ensuring the readiness and effectiveness of the F-FDTL to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Timor-Leste. They also play a key role in representing the F-FDTL in international forums and maintaining relationships with other defence forces. The appointment of the CEMGFA is made by the President of Timor-Leste, on the recommendation of the government.
