Mount Si

History

The mountain holds significance for local Native American tribes, who have traditional names and stories associated with it. Euro-American settlers later named it after Josiah Merritt, a local settler whose last name was often mispronounced as "Si."

Conservation

Mount Si is part of the Mount Si Natural Resources Conservation Area (NRCA), managed by the Washington Department of Natural Resources (DNR). The NRCA protects the mountain's natural resources and provides recreational opportunities while balancing conservation with responsible forest management. Efforts are focused on maintaining trail quality, preventing erosion, and protecting the surrounding ecosystem from the impacts of heavy recreational use.
