Lake Šas

Lake Šas (Albanian: Liqeni i Shasit, Serbian: Шаско језеро, Šasko jezero) is a lake located near the town of Ulcinj in Montenegro. It is the largest lake in Montenegro. The lake is shallow and its surface area fluctuates seasonally, typically ranging from 3.64 km² to 5.49 km². It is part of the Ulcinj Salina complex, a wetland area important for its biodiversity, especially birdlife. Lake Šas is fed by the Pranvera stream. Historically, the lake was believed to have 365 islands, one for each day of the year, although this number is not accurate today due to changes in water levels and other factors. The area is significant for both its natural beauty and its historical relevance, having been near ancient settlements and trade routes.
