Ayer Hitam (federal constituency)

Ayer Hitam is a federal constituency in Johor, Malaysia, that has been represented in the Dewan Rakyat (the lower house of the Parliament of Malaysia) since 1986.

It is mandated to return one member of parliament (MP) to the Dewan Rakyat under the first-past-the-post voting system.

History

The constituency was created in 1984 following a re-delineation of electoral boundaries and was first contested in the 1986 general election. It was carved out of parts of the Sri Gading and Sembrong constituencies.
