Buurkerk
The Buurkerk (literally "Neighbors' Church" in Dutch) is a late-Gothic church located in Utrecht, Netherlands. Its construction began in the 13th century and continued into the 16th century. It is situated on the Oudegracht, one of Utrecht's main canals.
Originally a parish church, the Buurkerk served as a religious center for the local community. Throughout its history, the church has undergone several renovations and modifications, reflecting changing architectural styles and religious practices.
In the 20th century, the Buurkerk was deconsecrated and repurposed. Today, it functions as a museum dedicated to mechanical music instruments, known as Museum Speelklok (formerly Museum van Speelklok tot Pierement). The museum houses a large collection of self-playing musical instruments, including street organs, music boxes, and orchestrions. The Buurkerk provides a unique and historical setting for displaying and demonstrating these mechanical marvels.
