Scream 3
Scream 3 is a 2000 American slasher film directed by Wes Craven and written by Ehren Kruger. It is the third installment in the Scream film series, serving as a direct sequel to Scream 2. The film stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Patrick Dempsey, and Parker Posey.
Scream 3 continues the story of Sidney Prescott (Campbell) as she lives in seclusion in Northern California under a new name. When the cast of Stab 3, the third film based on the Woodsboro murders, begins to be murdered, Sidney is drawn back into the world of Ghostface. Gale Weathers (Cox) and Dewey Riley (Arquette) once again team up to investigate the killings and protect Sidney.
The plot involves a new Ghostface killer targeting the actors of Stab 3 in the order in which their characters die in the screenplay. As the investigation unfolds, it is revealed that the new Ghostface has a connection to Sidney's past and her mother, Maureen Prescott. The film explores themes of Hollywood exploitation, family secrets, and the cyclical nature of violence.
Scream 3 received mixed reviews upon its release, with some critics praising the humor and suspense, while others criticized the convoluted plot and reliance on genre tropes. It was a commercial success, grossing over $161 million worldwide. While initially intended to be the conclusion of the Scream film series, it was followed by Scream 4 in 2011 and Scream (2022).
