Agona (clan)

The Agona clan is one of the eight major matrilineal clans (abusua) within the Akan people of Ghana. Matrilineal descent determines clan membership, meaning children belong to the clan of their mother.

The Agona clan is traditionally associated with the color red and certain totems, including the parrot (ako) and the snail (adwene). These totems are considered sacred and are often invoked in rituals and ceremonies associated with the clan.
