Roger McHardy

Roger McHardy is a Canadian software engineer and entrepreneur. He is best known for his contributions to the development of the Plan 9 from Bell Labs operating system and its descendants. McHardy worked at Bell Labs in the Computing Sciences Research Center in the late 1980s and early 1990s, where he was a key member of the Plan 9 development team. His work focused on the system's graphical user interface, the Rio windowing system.

Following his time at Bell Labs, McHardy co-founded Vita Nuova Holdings, a company that commercialized Plan 9 technology. Vita Nuova provided consulting services and developed custom software solutions based on Plan 9. McHardy continued to work on Plan 9-related projects and advocate for its use in various contexts.

McHardy's contributions to operating systems and distributed systems are significant, particularly in the area of novel user interface design and the exploration of alternative computing paradigms. He remains active in the Plan 9 community and continues to contribute to open-source software projects.
