GameTap

GameTap was an online subscription-based video game service active from 2005 to 2015. Owned and operated by Turner Broadcasting System, it offered a library of downloadable and streaming games across various platforms, including PC and dedicated GameTap consoles. The service featured titles from a wide range of publishers, spanning multiple genres and eras of gaming history, including arcade classics, Atari titles, and more modern PC and console games.

GameTap utilized a proprietary client software for accessing and playing games. Subscribers paid a monthly fee for access to the game library, with certain games available for permanent download purchase. Beyond gaming, GameTap also offered original video content, including animated series and gaming-related programming.

The service underwent several changes in its business model and content offerings throughout its lifespan. Ultimately, GameTap was acquired by Metaboli in 2008 and later shut down in 2015. While it no longer exists, GameTap is remembered as one of the early attempts at a comprehensive subscription-based video game service.
