CCP Games
CCP Games, also known as Crowd Control Productions, is an Icelandic video game developer best known for creating EVE Online, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in space. Founded in 1997 in Reykjavik, Iceland, CCP's initial focus was on creating a board game called Danger Game. However, the company transitioned to video game development with EVE Online, which launched in 2003 and quickly gained a devoted following due to its complex player-driven economy, intricate political landscape, and large-scale spaceship battles.
Besides EVE Online, CCP has developed other games, including DUST 514, a free-to-play first-person shooter that was integrated with the EVE Online universe (later discontinued), and EVE: Valkyrie, a virtual reality space combat shooter also set within the EVE IP. They have also explored other projects that were ultimately cancelled or remained unreleased.
CCP Games operates globally with studios in multiple locations. The company's development philosophy often centers on player agency and creating emergent gameplay opportunities within persistent online worlds. They have fostered a strong community around their games and regularly host events, both online and in person, for their players. In 2018, CCP Games was acquired by Pearl Abyss, a South Korean video game developer. Despite the acquisition, CCP continues to operate as an independent studio within Pearl Abyss.
