Texasville (novel)

Texasville is a 1987 novel by Larry McMurtry, a sequel to his 1966 novel The Last Picture Show. It continues the story of Duane Moore and other residents of the small, fictional town of Thalia, Texas, thirty years later.

The novel focuses on Duane's financial troubles stemming from the oil bust of the 1980s, his marital problems with his wife, Karla, and the return of Jacy Farrow from Europe after a long absence. Other characters from The Last Picture Show also reappear, including Sonny Crawford, Billy Clyde Puckett, and Ruth Popper. The novel explores themes of aging, economic decline, nostalgia, and the changing landscape of rural America.

Texasville is known for its blend of humor and pathos, as well as its realistic portrayal of small-town life. McMurtry uses the characters' struggles and relationships to reflect on the larger forces shaping the American West.

A film adaptation of Texasville, directed by Peter Bogdanovich and starring Jeff Bridges, Cybill Shepherd, and Timothy Bottoms, was released in 1990.
