Mason High School (Tulsa, Oklahoma)

Mason High School was a segregated high school for African American students in Tulsa, Oklahoma, operating from 1924 to 1954. It was established in response to the increasing black population in Tulsa and the racial segregation laws prevalent at the time. Prior to Mason, black students attended Booker T. Washington High School, which became overcrowded. Mason High School provided academic and vocational training to its students. The school was named in honor of prominent Tulsa educator, E.L. Mason. In 1954, following the Brown v. Board of Education Supreme Court decision, Mason High School was integrated with Tulsa Central High School, marking the end of its separate existence. The building that housed Mason High School was subsequently used for other educational purposes within the Tulsa Public Schools system.
