Gustaf Johansson (bishop)

Gustaf Johansson (1836-1916) was a Finnish theologian and Lutheran clergyman who served as the Archbishop of Turku and Finland from 1899 to 1916. Born in Artjärvi, Finland, he was a significant figure in the Finnish church, particularly during the period of Russification. Johansson was a strong advocate for the autonomy of the Finnish Lutheran Church and actively resisted attempts by the Russian government to exert control over its affairs. He was also involved in theological debates of his time and known for his conservative theological views.
