USCGC Spencer (WMEC-905)
The USCGC Spencer (WMEC-905) is a United States Coast Guard medium endurance cutter. She is a part of the Famous-class of cutters, also known as the "Bear" class, named after notable U.S. Coast Guard cutters.
Spencer is primarily used for law enforcement, search and rescue, homeland security, and national defense missions. She is equipped with a flight deck capable of supporting helicopter operations, and carries a variety of small arms and other law enforcement equipment.
Spencer is stationed at Boston, Massachusetts. She has participated in numerous operations, including drug interdiction, fisheries enforcement, and migrant interdiction. Her crew consists of approximately 100 officers and enlisted personnel.
The Spencer and her sister ships are designed for extended patrols in the open ocean and are vital assets in the Coast Guard's efforts to protect U.S. maritime interests. The cutter's namesake is Elmer F. Stone, the first aviator in the Coast Guard.
