Vilanant

Vilanant is a municipality located in the Alt Empordà comarca, in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated in the interior of the comarca, west of Figueres. The economy is primarily based on agriculture, particularly cereals and fodder.

Vilanant has a notable architectural heritage, including the Romanesque church of Santa Maria de Vilanant, documented as early as the 10th century. The church features elements from various periods, reflecting subsequent renovations and additions. The municipality also contains several farmhouses (masies) with historical and architectural interest.

The Festa Major (local festival) of Vilanant is celebrated in August. The municipality is accessible by road and is relatively close to the AP-7 motorway, providing connections to other parts of Catalonia and beyond. Its population is relatively small and has remained fairly stable in recent decades.
