Femme Fatale (Femme Fatale album)
Femme Fatale is the seventh studio album by American singer Britney Spears, released on March 25, 2011, by Jive Records. Incorporating electropop and dance-pop styles, the album's themes revolve around female empowerment, seduction, and the allure of a "femme fatale" persona.
Spears began working on Femme Fatale in 2009 with producers such as Max Martin, Dr. Luke, Bloodshy & Avant, will.i.am, and Darkchild. The album's sound marked a further departure from Spears' earlier pop roots, embracing heavier electronic and dance influences.
Three singles were released from the album. "Hold It Against Me" debuted at number one on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Spears' fourth chart-topping single in the United States. "Till the World Ends" peaked at number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and became a global hit. "I Wanna Go" reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Spears her fifth top-ten single from the album.
Femme Fatale received generally positive reviews from music critics, who praised its catchy melodies and electronic production. Some critics, however, criticized Spears' vocal processing on the album. Commercially, Femme Fatale debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, marking Spears' sixth number-one album in the United States. It also topped the charts in Australia, Canada, and Mexico.
Spears supported the album with the Femme Fatale Tour, which ran from June 2011 to December 2011 and grossed over $69 million worldwide.
