John O'Rourke (footballer, born 1945)
John O'Rourke (born 1945) was an English professional footballer who played as a centre forward.
O'Rourke began his career at Middlesbrough in the early 1960s, making his debut in 1963. He quickly established himself as a prolific goalscorer, and his performances attracted attention from other clubs.
In 1967, O'Rourke signed for Ipswich Town. He continued his scoring record, becoming a key player for the club. He formed a successful partnership with Ray Crawford. O'Rourke was known for his strength, aerial ability, and clinical finishing.
After several seasons at Ipswich, he moved to Coventry City in 1971. While he contributed to the team, his time there was less prolific than his spell at Ipswich.
O'Rourke later played for Queens Park Rangers before finishing his professional career at Bournemouth.
Following his retirement from professional football, O'Rourke remained involved in the sport at a local level. He is remembered as a talented and effective centre forward from the 1960s and 1970s.
