Nemosia

Nemosia, derived from the Greek word "νέμεσις" (nemesis), refers to the resentment or bitterness one feels towards good fortune in others, particularly when that good fortune is perceived as undeserved or exceeding their merits. It differs from simple envy in that nemosia often carries a moral dimension; the individual experiencing nemosia believes that the fortunate person is somehow violating a natural order or deserving of punishment for their success. It is a sense of righteous indignation directed at someone else's perceived unwarranted luck or prosperity.

Nemosia can also describe the dread or fear that one's own excessive success or happiness will inevitably lead to downfall or retribution, invoking the idea of Nemesis, the Greek goddess of divine retribution. In this context, it is related to the concept of hubris and the belief that excessive pride or good fortune will eventually attract divine punishment to restore balance. While often personal, nemosia can also be directed towards groups or entities perceived as unjustly benefitting, adding a social or political dimension to the feeling. The feeling is complex, intertwining envy, resentment, a sense of justice (however skewed), and fear.
