Birmingham (crater)

Birmingham is a lunar impact crater that lies on the northern part of the Moon's near side. It is located to the south-southeast of the prominent crater Fontenelle, and northeast of the slightly smaller crater W. Bond.

This crater has a relatively well-defined, though somewhat irregular, rim that has suffered only minor erosion. There are slight outward bulges in the perimeter, particularly along the eastern side. The inner walls are somewhat terraced, and slope down to a relatively level interior floor. The floor is marked only by a few tiny craterlets and some low ridges. The crater lacks a central peak.

The crater is named after John Birmingham, an Irish astronomer.
