Altaba

Altaba Inc. (formerly known as Yahoo! Inc.) was a holding company that held Yahoo's stakes in Alibaba Group and Yahoo Japan, as well as a portfolio of patents and other minority investments. It was formed in June 2017 after Verizon Communications acquired Yahoo's operating business.

Altaba was essentially a restructured version of Yahoo! Inc., created to manage the assets not acquired by Verizon. The name "Altaba" was intended to signify the new, independent entity.

The primary assets of Altaba were:

• A significant ownership stake in Alibaba Group.
• An ownership stake in Yahoo Japan.
• A portfolio of patents, technology, and real estate.
• Minority investments in various companies.

Altaba's sole purpose was to manage these assets and return capital to shareholders. The company did not operate any consumer-facing businesses.

In May 2019, Altaba announced its plans to dissolve and distribute its remaining assets to shareholders. The dissolution was completed in October 2019. Shareholders received cash and stock from the sale of Altaba's assets. The company no longer exists.
